Footloose, английский

- Sailors use this term to describe a foreand- aft sail set without a boom, so that its foot is unsecured and free to flap around. according to some sources, the nautical term came ashore to describe a person not confined by responsibility and able to travel around freely, but it seems more likely to have developed on land, since “foot” and “loose” in their normal senses have the same connotation. foot-rope: a rope suspended below a yard to provide footing for sailors reefing or furling square-sails. also “horse.”
