    Карта, на которой данные сохранялись посредством отверстий, проколотых в определенных местах. на карте с краевой перфорацией проколы делались с края и имели форму отверстий для их сортировки вручную. обычная п. имела 80 колонок и 12 рядов. в каждой колонке имелось 12 позиций, в которых могли быть проколоты отверстия согласно заранее установленному коду. позиция отверстия указывала на величину переменной. п. сортировались механическим или электрическим образом, обеспечивая быструю обработку и анализ данных, иногда значительной сложности. использование перфокарт было заменено прямым вводом данных в компьютер. см. также данных обработка.
