- Broadly, insurance covering loss or damage of goods at sea. marine insurance typically compensates the owner of merchandise for losses sustained from fire, shipwreck, etc., but excludes losses that can be recovered from the carrier.
- Specialized insurance of ships and/or cargo against risks incidental to a marine adventure. usually covered by a marine insurance policy with extra clauses to deal with specific risks.
- A contract by which an individual or a company agree to indemnify the losses or damages happening to a ship or cargo during a voyage. for this
