    Amount of diamond material lost or worn away by use in a drill bit expressed in carats.

  1. One carat equals 0.2 grams (200 milligrams). this is a measure of weight rather than size (see: carat weight vs. total carat weight).

  2. Metric carat, the standard unit of weight used for gemstones. one carat equals 0.200 grams (or 200 milligrams). one carat equals 100 points. usually abbreviated ct.

  3. Carat (ct) is the unit of measure for the weight of diamonds and gemstones. one carat can be divided into 100 points, so a 0.25 carat stone can also be referred to as 25 points.

  4. A unit of weight for precious stones, especially diamonds. the international metric carat (abbreviated m.c. or cm.) of 200 milligrams (3.086 grains troy) is currently generally accepted as standard throughout the world.
