Laws of wisby

Морской словарь
This maritime code was developed at wisby (or wisbuy), the capital of the island of gothland in the baltic sea. claimed to be older than the roles de oleron, many of its clauses are virtually identical and it seems certain that one was copied from the other. during the 12th and 13th centuries, gothland was a wealthy commercial center and, as a result, the wisby laws carried great authority in the baltic region, until superseded by the hanseatic ordinances.

Laws and usages of war, английский
The idea that the conduct of armed conflict can be governed, or at least limited to mitigate excessive evils, can be found in almost all societies from antiquity onward. (the classical name of the laws of war is jus in bello—a separate body of law, jus ad bellum, determines whether entering into war is justifiable.) there have been many international declarations, conventions, treaties and judgments, encompassing a wide range of matters, such as the rights and duties of neutrals; treatment of pows and those wounded in battle; negotiation and implementation of truces; limitations on means and methods of combat; and war crimes. as an example, eight of twelve sections in the 1907 hague conventions concern the following aspects of naval warfare: vi—the status of enemy merchant ships at the outbreak of hostilities vii—the conversion of merchant ships into war-ships viii—the laying of automatic submarine contact mines ix—bombardment by naval forces in time of warx —adaptation to maritime war of the principles of the geneva convention xi—restrictions with regard to the exercise of the right of capture in naval war xii—the creation of an international prize court [not ratified] xiii—the rights and duties of neutral powers in naval war
