- A spiral canal in the cochlea comment: the cochlea is formed of three spiral canals: the scala vestibuli which is filled with perilymph and connects with the oval window; the scala media which is filled with endolymph and transmits vibrations from the scala vestibuli through the basilar membrane to the scala tympani, which in turn transmits the sound vibrations to the round window.
- Ports and landing-places in the levant, so named from the old custom of placing a ladder to a boat to land from. gang-boards are now used for that purpose.
