Seek time

Telecommunications Glossary
    Usually expressed in terms of average seek time, it provides a comparative number indicating the time required to get from one position to another, in reading a cd-rom. some older cd-rom drives had seek times in excess of 1,000 milliseconds (ms), or one full second. the newest drives have seek times approaching 200ms.
