- A blue and white flag (the flag for the letter "p") hoisted at the foretrucks of ships about to sail. formerly a white ship on a blue ground, but later a white square on a blue ground.

- A square blue flag with a white center (“p” in international code) is displayed to indicate a ship is about to depart. peter was originally the phonetic notation for letter “p” and, although it has been changed to papa, the name of the flag remains. see also morning colors.
