Specific gravity
|
Specific gravity, английский
- Ratio of the weight of a volume of material to the weight of an equal volume of water at a given temperature (7).
- The ratio of the density of wood to the density of water at 4 c. specific gravity of wood is usually based on green
- The density (mass per unit volume) of any material divided by that of water at a standard temperature.
- The ratio of the weight of a given volume of material to the weight of an equal volume of water.
- Плотность
- Удельный вес
- A measure of how tightly packed the atoms of a substance are. varies by the mineral or substance. example, gold has a high specific gravity, while quartz has a low specific gravity. see also "density."
- As applied to wood, the ratio of the ovendry
- This measurement of weight is expressed in grams per cubic centimeter. a lower specific gravity means a lighter weight lens.
- Same as relative density
- The comparative weights of equal bulks of different bodies, water being generally represented as unity.
- In liquids such as drill mud, or solids such as diamond, the weight of a given volume as compared with an equal volume of pure water at 4° c.
- The ratio of a material’s density to that of water [ material weight in air ? (weight in air - weight in water)]. used to differentiate different kinds of volcaniclastics and other materials. sw
- The ratio of the weight of the solution to the weight of an equal volume of water at a specified temperature. used as an indicator of battery state-of-charge.
- Ratio of the mass of a material to the mass of an equal volume of water at 4°c. the range for modern fibers is not too great and is dependent to some extent on the liquid used as an immersant in measurements, because of fiber swelling and of possible absorption of liquid into fiber voids. (also see density.)
- The ratio of the density of a substance to the density of water. the specific gravity of water is at standard condition temperature and pressure.
- Term used in connection with testing a battery`s electrolyte. a specific gravity test is used to determine the battery`s state of charge. sealed “maintenance free” batteries sometimes have an indicator on top that indicates the state of charge.
- The density of a substance divided by the density of water. water has a density of 1 gram/cm3. the closer a lubricant’s specific gravity is to 1, the greater its tendency to absorb moisture and have poor demulsibility.
- The ratio of the density of a substance to the density of water, often at a specified temperature.
- Unitless ratio of the density of a material divided by the density of water. water has a density of about 1 g·cm–3, or 1000 kg·m–3.
- Unitless ratio of the density of a material divided by the density of water. water has a density of about 1 g/cm3, or 1000 kg/m3, at 15.6 °c (60 °f).
