Sulfated ash

Oil glossary
  1. The ash content of fresh, compounded lubricating oil as determined by astm method d 874. indicates level of metallic additives in the oil.

  2. Residue that remains after a sample of oil has been oxidised under prescribed conditions and the resulting residue reduced to a constant weight by heating with sulphuric acid. used as a measure of the amount of metallo-organic additives present in new oils. in used oils, the determination may be affected by the presence of incombustible contaminants such as lead alkyls, dust and wear metals.

  5. A measure of the amount of inorganic material in lubricating oil. determined by burning the oil and weighing the residue. results expressed as percent by weight.

  6. Fine particles of rock material ejected during an explosive volcanic eruption (commonly intermediate to felsic events). ash may be either solid or molten when first erupted, and generally measures less than 0.10 inch in size (larger particles have other names).

  7. A hard, strong, straight-grained hardwood

  8. Зола. твердый остаток после практически полного сгорания вещества (предварительный стандарт мос, 8). ash, fly — летучая зола. зола, увлекаемая газами сгорания (предварительный стандарт мос, 8). при отсутствии пыле- !22

  10. The solid residue that remains after combustion is complete.

  11. Metallic deposits formed in the combustion chamber and other engine parts during high-temperature operation.

  12. A light colored hardwood used in furniture and cabinet construction.

Ash flow, английский
A turbulent mixture of gas and rock fragments, most of which are ash-sized particles, ejected violently from a crater or fissure. the mass of pyroclastics is normally of very high temperature and moves rapidly down the slopes, or even along a level surface.

Ash flow - (not preferred, английский
See pyroclastic flow, pyroclastic surge) a highly heated mixture of volcanic gases and ash, traveling down the flank of a volcano or along the surface of the ground; produced by the explosive disintegration of viscous lava in a volcanic crater, or by the explosive emission of gas-charged ash from a fissure or group of fissures. the solid materials contained in a typical ash flow are generally unsorted and ordinarily include volcanic dust, pumice, scoria, and blocks in addition to ash. (also called a pyroclastic flow.) compare - nuee ardente, lahar, pyroclastic. gg

Sulfonate, английский
A hydrocarbon in which a hydrogen atom has been replaced with the highly polar (so2ox) group, where x is a metallic ion or alkyl radical. petroleum sulfonates are refinery by-products of the sulfuric acid treatment of white oils. sulfonates have important applications as emulsifiers and chemical intermediates in petrochemical manufacture, and substituted sulfonates are widely used as corrosion inhibitors. synthetic sulfonates can be manufactured from special feedstocks rather than from white oil base stocks.
