- The process where several analog message signals or digital data streams merge into one signal over a shared medium.
- Transmission of two or more information streams over a single physical medium at the same time such that each data source has its own channel. allows a number of simultaneous transmissions over a single circuit. common methods are frequency division multiplexing (fdm) where the frequency bands are split to constitute a distinct channel and time division multiplexing (tdm) where the common channel is allotted to several different information channels, one at a time.
