- Loose hemp or jute fiber that's impregnated with tar or pitch and used to caulk large seams or for packing plumbing pipe joints
- Loosely woven hemp rope that has been treated with oil or other waterproofing agent; it is used to caulk joints in a bell and spigot pipe and fittings.
- Material used for caulking hulls. often hemp picked from old untwisted ropes.
- A caulking material made from old hemp rope fibers that have been treated with tar.
- Unraveled rope fiber, mixed with resin and pitch, for use in caulking the seams of wooden vessels.
