Drilling fluid

Глоссарий строительных терминов инженерных изысканий
  1. Water that may contain additives, including bentonite, polymers, soda ash, surfactants, or other materials, to enhance stability and excavatability. if the drilling fluid contains additives and is design to have specific properties, it is considered to be an engineered drilling fluid, whether specified by the engineer or selected by the contractor. some additives may increase the effectiveness of the drilling fluid and reduce adhesion of the spoils (cuttings). the drilling fluid is used in a closed-loop system for transporting spoils and for counterbalancing earth and groundwater pressures during microtunneling.

  2. Largely comprised of water, drilling fluids usually include bentonite and if warranted other additives such as soda ash, polymers, and detergents to address water and soils properties that could compromise the successful completion of the hdd installation.

  3. Circulating fluid, one function of which is to lift cuttings out of the wellbore and to the surface. it also serves to cool the bit and to counteract downhole formation pressure. although a mixture of barite, clay, water, and other chemical additives is the most common drilling fluid, wells can also be drilled by using air, gas, water, or oil-base mud as the drilling mud. also called circulating fluid, drilling mud. see mud.
