Executive curl

    A twist of braid above the uppermost stripe of an rn officer’s rank insignia. initially restricted to officers of the seaman (now executive) branch. since 1918, however, non-executive officers have also worn the curl, with their specialties identified by stripes of colored cloth (see specialist officers).
