This scottish barque is said to have run aground on midway island during a gale in 1887. after the crew abandoned ship, the vessel floated off and disappeared. four years later, she ran aground again, very close to the spot of her first grounding. apparently she had spent four years drifting around the pacific, unmanned and unsighted. this phantom voyage is reported in a number of works on maritime mysteries, but is not confirmed by more serious publications. dunes:wind-formed mounds or ridges of drifted sand along a sea shore. the word survives from anglo- saxon.
