Colregs, английский
This abbreviation of collision regulations refers to rules formalized at a 1972 convention on international regulations for the prevention of collisions at sea (see table 7). based on concepts of seamanship and nautical wisdom that had evolved over centuries of seafaring, colregs became effective in july 1977, and are periodically updated. they are binding on the vessels of all states while in international waters. in inland waters, vessels obey the regulations of the state having jurisdiction, but these are usually based on and similar to colregs. although mandatory, these international rules do not stifle initiative, because rule 2 makes it clear that blindly following them does not exonerate any master or navigator from personal responsibility for prudent and responsible behavior; even to the extent of ignoring the rules when circumstances dictate alternative emergency action. in addition to steering and sailing regulations, colregs prescribe lights and shapes that respectively identify the types and relative positions of watercraft by night and by day; sound and light signals (table 9) which allow masters or pilots to communicate their vessel’s present situation and im- codag–warp 76 minent maneuvers; and a wide range of methods for mariners to signal distress (see table 10).
