- (от гео ... и морфология), наука о рельефе суши, дна океанов и морей. изучает внешний облик, происхождение, возраст рельефа, историю развития, современную динамику и закономерности распространения. данные геоморфологии используются при поисках месторождений полезных ископаемых, проектировании дорог и сооружений. появление геоморфологии как самостоятельной области знания относится к кон. 19 - нач. 20 вв., когда оформились две самостоятельные школы: американская во главе с у. м. дейвисом и европейская (главным образом немецкая), представителями которой были а. пенк, в. пенк. основы геоморфологии в россии заложили п. а. кропоткин, и. в. мушкетов, и. с. щукин, я. с. эдельштейн, к. к. марков и др.
- Геолого-географическая наука о формах земной поверхности (рельефе) и земли в целом, их происхождении, внешнем облике, эволюции и закономерностях географическо- го распространения. различают геоморфологию: общую, региональную, прикладную, планетар- ную. 1. общая геоморфология изучает все многообразие форм рельефа, возникающее в результате взаимодействия эндогенных и экзогенных процессов, устанавливает методы геоморфологических исследований и картирования, геоморфологической съемки (закономерности развития рельефа - на основании анализа форм и коррелятивных им отложениям как суши, так и дна морей и океа- нов). внешние особенности рельефа рассматриваются морфографией, количественная характери- стика их учитывается морфометрией, получившей широкое развитие в связи с применением мор- фометрического метода при поисках нефти и газа. 2. региональная геоморфология рассматривает вопросы геоморфологического районирования, занимается изучением форм рельефа, анализируя их морфологию, генезис и возраст и особенности географического распространения на какой-либо конкретной территории. итогом регионального исследования является установление истории раз- вития рельефа, а также выделение основных ее этапов. путем анализа эволюции рельефа восста- навливается и ее палеогеоморфология, т. е. рельеф каждого конкретного отрезка времени в про- шлом. 3. прикладная геоморфология занимается решением различных практических задач, свя- занных с рельефом и рельефообразующими процессами (изучение формирования и поиски россы- пей, нефтегазоносных структур, эрозия почв, карст, освоение берегов, исследование долин в целях их гидротехнического использования и пр. 4. планетарная геоморфология - или точнее планетоло- гия - изучает особенности рельефа земли в целом как планеты и рельеф планет земной группы. в геоморфологии используются методы исследования как геоморфологические, так и смежных наук - геологические, гидрографические, биологические, математические и др.
