Pressure gradient

  1. The difference in pressure between two points divided by the distance between them. on a weather map, the closeness of the isobars is a measure of the pressure gradient.

  2. The rate of change in pressure over distance. the closer the isobars the greater the pressure gradient and the stronger the wind.radiation fog

Gradient, английский
  1. Amount by which the grade increases or decreases in a unit of horizontal distance (21).

  2. Градиент

  3. Уклон; градиент

  4. In tinting lenses, application of dye to a lens making the top darker and fading to clear towards the bottom of the lens.

  5. Плавно меняющийся цвет; плавный переход цветов; раскат тонов; градиент gradient-fill handling градиентная закраска; градиентная заливка; средства градиентной передачи

  6. A gradual progression. for example, a progression from one color to another color, or from one shade to another shade of the same color.

  7. Slope of characteristic curve for specified film density.

  8. See "grade".

Gradient (rt), английский
The slope of a characteristic curve at a specified density. symbol

Gradient de température, французский

Gradient descent, английский
Gradient descent, or hill climbing, is a common technique for estimating parameters in machine learning algorithms such as neural nets or other regression style techniques. these algorithms "learn" by adjusting their parameters to minimize some error measure. at any given point in the learning process, the algorithm evaluates how a change in the parameters could decrease the current error and moves in that direction. typically, the algorithm determines the direction as a function of the derivative of the error function (its gradient) with respect to the parameters or a weighted derivative, where the matrix of second derivatives (the hessian matrix) determines the weights. once the direction has been chosen, it is multiplied by a learning rate parameter and added to the current values of the parameter vector. see also: learning rate, machine learning. grammer, augmented transition network see: augmented transition network grammer.

Gradient fill, английский
Градиентная заливка. заполнение замкнутой области оттенками какого-либо цвета, постепенно изменяющимися от одной границы области к противоположной

Gradient mirrors, английский
Primarily used for driving or reading outdoors. this mirror helps reflect the intensity of the sun above while leaving a slight lighter area below for better visability of the dashboard or reading material.

  1. Disagreement, inequity, contrast, dissimilarity, incompatibility

  2. Разница; разность

  3. An important army term, meaning firstly the sum to be paid by officers when exchanging from the half to full pay; and, secondly, the price or difference in value of the several commissions.

Wave direction, английский
The direction from which ocean waves approach a location. generally, the principal wave direction is represented by the direction which corresponds to the peak period of the energy spectrum (tp1).

Tidal range, английский
  1. The difference between the heights of high water and low water.

  2. The average difference between successive high and low tides. geographical position and local topography determine the scale of tidal movement, which is usually small in the middle of the ocean or enclosed bodies of water; for example, the waters around hawaii, and the baltic and mediterranean seas have hardly any tidal range at all. on the other hand, it can be very large when funneled into a bay or river estuary; in canada’s bay of fundy the tide rises and falls some 12–15 meters (40–50 feet) and very high ranges are also found in other coastal areas such as the amazonian and the patagonian shelves.

  3. The difference in height between low water and the next high water. at its maximum at the top of spring tides and its minimum at bottom of neap tides.

  4. Разница в высоте между низкой водой и следующей высокой водой. максимум приходится на вершину весенних приливов, а минимум — на дно квазиприливов.
