A room in an ancient roman temple in which was set out the couch (pulivar) for the gods at a special religious feast. pulvinated, pillowed cushion-shaped, bulging out, as in the convex profile of the frieze in some ionic orders. pulvinus 1. the baluster at the side of an ionic capital. 2. an impost block, a dosseret.
