Foundation pier

    A column embedded in the soil that extends from the lowest floor of a building down to the top of a footing or pile cap; where the pier, 1 bears directly on the soil with intermediate footings or pile caps, the foundation pier is considered to be the entire length of the column below the lowest floor level.
