- Half of an exposure equation; the time that light is permitted to strike the light-sensitive surface within a camera. motion picture shutter speed is approxi-mately 1/50 of a second when the camera runs at 24 fps.
- The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, most commonly expressed in fractions or multiples of a second.
- An element of exposure; the duration of time in which light is allowed to strike the film.
