Oiler

  1. A device for once-through lubrication. three common types of oilers are: drop-feed, wick-feed, and bottle-feed; all depend on gravity to induce a metered flow of oil to the bearing. the drop-feed oiler delivers oil from the bottom of a reservoir to a bearing one drop at a time; flow rate is controlled by a needle valve at the top of the reservoir. in a wick-feed oiler, the oil flows through a wick and drops from the end of the wick into the bearing; feed is regulated by chaining the number of strands, by raising or lowering the oil level, or by applying pressure to the wick. in a bottle-feed oiler, a vacuum at the top of the jar keeps the fluid from running out; as tiny bubbles of air enter, the vacuum is reduced and a small amount of oil enters the bearing or is added to a reservoir from wick the bearing is lubricated.

  2. 1. a naval auxiliary ship with fuel tanks and dry cargo holds designed to replenish other ships with fuel and supplies while underway on the high seas. see oiler (ship).

  3. An unlicensed member of the engine room staff who oils and greases bearings and moving parts of the main engine and auxiliaries. most of this work is now done automatically and the oiler merely insures it operates correctly.

  4. A tanker designed to replenish a warship’s fuel while underway.

  5. One of the several types of mechanical devices that deliver oil to machines and into air or steam lines in controllable amounts. also called atomizer, line oiler, lubricator, oil pot, pineapple, pot.

  6. A workman responsible for keeping machinery properly lubricated. also called grease monkey.

Lubrication, английский
  1. The control of friction and wear by the introduction of a friction-reducing film between moving surfaces in contact. the lubricant used can be a fluid, solid, or plastic substance.

  2. Смазка

  3. On no account should oil be used to lubricate pin-tumbler cylinders. graphite is the conventional lubricant for this mechanism.

  4. Смазка (действие)

  5. The act of injecting a fluid, normally bentonite and/or polymers, to reduce the skin friction and jacking forces on the jacking pipe during installation. the fluid fills the annular space.

  6. Means of reducing friction either around a pipe being jacked or a shaft being sunk into the ground.

  7. The control of friction and wear between two moving, touching surfaces by placing a friction-reducing substance between them.

  8. Control of friction and wear by the introduction of a friction reducing film between moving surfaces in contact. the film may be fluid, solid or plastic.

  9. Reduction of friction or wear between two load-bearing surfaces by the application of a lubricant; includes boundary lubrication (thin or interrupted fluid film, especially bearings where wear occurs); mixed film, where some liquid pools support the load; elastohydrodynamic (high-pressure loads increase the lubricant’s viscosity and load-carrying capacity, especially in gears); hydrodynamic (a thick fluid film lubrication, especially in journal bearings) and hydrostatic (external pump pressure used to form a thick fluid film, as in start-up of journal bearings).

Controlled, английский
  1. Управляемый; регулируемый

  2. Управляемый

  3. Подконтрольный (о предприятиях)
