- Contact with a substance that occurs once or for only a short time (up to 14 days) [compare with intermediate duration exposure and chronic exposure].
- A single exposure to a toxic substance which may result in severe biological harm or death. acute exposures are usually characterized as lasting no longer than a day. the toxic effect may be temporary and reversible, or may be permanent (disability or death).
