Brinelling

Oil glossary
  1. Permanent deformation of the bearing surfaces where the rollers (or balls) contact the races. brinelling results from excessive load or impact on stationary bearings. it is a form of mechanical damage in which metal is displaced or upset without attrition.

  2. Repeated stripe indentations made by a spherical object. false brinelling refers to a type of surface wear.

  3. Permanent surface deformation caused by contact stress above the material’s limit. compare false brinelling.

  4. Permanent surface deformation caused by contact stress above the material’s limit. compare wear, fretting.

Mechanical, английский

Brookfield viscosity, английский
  1. Apparent viscosity in cp determined by brookfield viscometer, which measures the torque required to rotate a spindle at constant speed in oil of a given temperature. basis for astm method d 2983; used for measuring low temperature viscosity of lubricants.

  2. Measure of the apparent viscosity of a non-newtonian fluid as determined by a brookfield viscometer at a controlled temperature and shear rate.

Bright stock, английский
  1. A heavy residual lubricant stock with low pour point, used in finished blends to provide good bearing film strength, prevent scuffing, and reduce oil consumption. usually identified by its viscosity, sus at 210 degrees f or cst at 100 degrees c.

  2. Refined, high viscosity lubricating oils usually made from residual stocks by suitable treatment, such as a combination of acid treatment or solvent extraction with dewaxing or clay finishing.

  3. Describes high-viscosity lubricating oils that are refined to make them clear products of good color. bright stocks are made from residuals or bottoms, solvent dewaxed and deasphalted; they may be used for blending.
