surfactant
  1. Surface-active agent that reduces interfacial tension of a liquid. a surfactant used in a petroleum oil may increase the oil`s affinity for metals and other materials.

  2. A chemical wetting agent; added to water to improve its penetration into a material; often useful in reducing the amount of water required in removing a material from the surface on which it has been applied.

  3. A substance in the alveoli of the lungs which keeps the surfaces of the lungs wet and prevents lung collapse

  4. A surface-active agent, i.e. a product that acts by modifying the surface or boundary between two phases.

  5. A surface-active agent, i.e., a product that acts by modifying the surface or boundary between two phases.

  6. Group of chemical compounds used for degerming; lower the surface tension of water, creating emulsions that mechanically carry away microorganisms

  7. Any surface modifying material that imparts anti-wear, extreme pressure or rust inhibition properties, spreadability, etc.
surfactant (cleansers)
A compound that reduces surface tension when dissolved in water or aqueous solution, or that reduces interfacial tension between two liquids or a liquid and a solid. the three types of surfactants are wetting agents, detergents and emulsifiers.
surfactant (pt)
(surface active agent) a soluble compound that reduces the surface tension of liquids, or reduces interfacial tension between two liquids or a liquid and a solid.
surfactant ad- sorption
    surfactants
These are most commonly used as detergents and foaming agents in cleansing products (in other words, they give products that fluffy foamy effect and skin that squeaky clean feel). that might sound like a good thing, but they`re very harsh on the skin, and end up stripping it of moisture and throwing its ph levels off balance.
